2 Day Wax Carving Jewellery Workshop with Aimee Winstone at Hillside Studios
Come and join Aimee at Hillside Studios for a relaxed creative 2 days of jewellery making. In the two sessions, you’ll learn how to carve a block of wax into your chosen design and create a piece of silver jewellery in the company of lovely creatives, amateur makers and keens crafters just like you.
The 2 Day Wax Carving Workshop is suitable for crafters of all abilities, from absolute beginners to those with some knowledge of silversmithing, everyone will leave with a piece you’ll be proud to wear. This workshop will not include the use of any stones or stone mounting.
Due to Covid 19 social distancing, it is currently limited to just 3 students. If guidelines change I may increase class numbers so if you would like to join the waiting list for this course please get in touch.
This workshop will run between 10-4 with an hour lunch.
The price of this workshop includes the use of all tools and wax. Silver will be charged at £2.5 a gram so that you can create your own stunning one-of-a-kind ring, pendant or earrings. As a guide, a very heavy silver ring could weigh 18 grams. Your wax will be weighed and a cost will be calculated at the end of the first session.
You’ll take home your original creation, plus worksheets allowing you to continue your new hobby in the comfort of your own home with knowledge of how to create more pieces with a basic toolkit.
2 Day Wax Carving Workshop is a relaxed and informal session where we’ll cover:
On the first session
A short introduction and demonstration of possible techniques
Design time with a discussion of possible techniques to use
Carving your piece/s with a chance to practice other techniques also
Learn how to calculate the weight and cost of your silver castings. As a guide, a very heavy silver ring could weigh 18 grams. Your wax will be weighed and a cost will be calculated at the end of the first session.
1-hour lunch break in the rural setting of Hillside Studios
Plenty of time for Q&A
On the second session
A short explanation of the casting process
Demonstrations of filing, buffing, soldering, polishing and oxidising as needed
Discussing your piece and the processes you will need to complete and in what order
Completing your piece of jewellery using all or some of the techniques above based on your design
Plenty of time to Q&A
Take away your own finished piece of unique handmade jewellery, made by you
Unfortunately, this workshop does not include the lost wax casting process.
During the corona virus pandemic no refreshments will be offered, please bring your own.
You can enjoy a small selection of teas, coffee and cold drinks during the workshop. I will also have biscuits or snacks to treat ourselves with.
If you have any dietary requirements, please get in touch before booking to make sure these can be accommodated.
Please bring your own lunch with you. There is a basic kitchen area with use of a microwave. A short drive away is Easter Compton Farm Shop Cafe, Asda or the Mall’s Food Court if needed.

Aimee Winstone is a jeweller based in Bristol. Outside of running expert jewellery making workshops, you’ll find Aimee in her studio creating original designs running her successful business making commission based fine jewellery in silver gold and platinum.

About Hillside Studios
Hillside Studios is a lovely rural studio located minutes from the Cribbs Causeway M5 junction, Bristol. This creative venue supports 7 craftspeople, including pottery, stone masonry and painting.
Hillside Studios is located on gravelled farmland with steps to each studio, unfortunately, some people with mobility problems may find difficulty navigating the area. For this reason, there has no step-free access available.
Car: Hillside Studios is located not far from Wild Place Zoo, Easter Compton, Bristol, having your own transport is the best way to get there. There is plenty of free parking on site.
Cycling: Hillside Studios is on the National Cycle Route 410.
Buses: This is a trickier option. You can catch the number 1 and 2 buses from Central Bristol to Catbrain Lane, Cribbs Causeway. Click here for timetable info. From the bus stop, it is then a 30-minute pedestrian route, part of this walk is along country roads without pavements.
Buses 625 and 924 offer a closer service to Hillside Studios.
When using a sat nav enter the postcode BS35 5RU, this will take you to the Rectory next door. Hillside Studios has a yellow no parking sign outside, the second gate will be open for you.

Cancellations & Refunds
We reserve the right to cancel or postpone this workshop. In cases of unforeseeable circumstances like extreme weather, we will give as much notice as possible. If the event is cancelled or postponed due to low ticket sales, we will give a minimum of 2 days notice.
In either case, anyone who was purchased will be offered a full refund and/or a ticket to a future event.
Refunds can only be offered with a minimum of 14 days notice.
